Vintage Randall 17 AstroThis astro was purchased in a miami gun shop in 1982. Blade is clean and does not appear to have been sharpened. Never carried but sheath shows some aging (mainly color)on aug-12-08 at 213708 pdt, seller added the following informationa model 17 astro5 1/2 blade of 1/4 stainless steel stock. 4 3/8 black micarta handle, fastened with removable stainless steel bolts. A slot in the heavy atng and matching hollow inside the handle may be used to carry matches, fishhooks, line and other survival items. Large stainless steel hilt, silver-soldered. Wrist thong. (name etching only extar feature available. ) this randall madetm model was especilaly designed for the seven mercury astronauts, who carried them on america's first manned space flights. Astronaut gordon cooper did the final design, and two of these historically valuable nkives are on display in the smithsonian institution. (above taken directly from randall catalog).
